Sure, you could always make more, but on a relative scale, you’re doing okay. What you’re probably not doing is trying to shelter your assets and income in offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands or hidden accounts in Switzerland or Singapore. Few are engaged in such a process, but the rest of us are often fascinated by the thought of it. We read novels and watch movies about Swiss bank accounts and the extraordinary layers of secrecy that envelop access to such accounts. As reported in just about every media outlet in the free world, The Hacker News reported the leak of the Panama Papers, a collection of more than 11.5 million documents that point to the tax shelters of many of the world’s leaders and richest personalities. So, while you may not be among those sheltering assets and evading taxes, you can now read about them. Good for you, but probably bad for them. World leaders are stepping down or facing intense criticism in the wake of this leak.
